Sound City Drivers Ed teaches teens across Tacoma, Lakewood, and Federal Way. Afternoon traffic on I-5 and SR 16 used to wreck the calendar. A student stuck on the bridge meant a cancelled hour. The next student on a paper waitlist often found out too late to take the slot.

Marcus Ellison runs the schedule for nine instructors. Before DriversEdPro, cancellations were a voicemail and a sticky note. Cars sat. Families waited.

"A cancellation used to sit empty. Now the next family on the list gets a text, books from their phone, and we keep the car moving," Ellison says.

What changed

Students book and reschedule online. When a drive opens up, a waitlist text goes out from the school's number. The first family to claim it is on the calendar. Instructors see the change on their phone before they leave the previous drop-off.

Ellison also set booking windows so last-minute cancellations still have a chance to refill, and so instructors are not chasing texts at 9 p.m. Reminders go out the day before, which cut the no-shows that used to stack on rainy Tuesdays.

In daily use

  • Online booking with instructor and vehicle availability
  • Waitlist texts for open drives
  • Day-before reminders to students and parents
  • A live calendar instead of a whiteboard in the office

The school still deals with Puget Sound traffic. The difference is the empty hour is no longer the default. Ellison says most cancelled drives now refill the same afternoon.
